A Session in the Forest of Dean: Why the Woods Might Be the Most Beautiful Place You Never Considered

There's a particular quality of light that only exists in ancient woodland. It doesn't fall so much as it drifts and filtering through centuries-old canopy, catching dust and pollen in golden shafts, settling on moss like it's been waiting there for you. If you've ever walked beneath the trees of the Forest of Dean, you'll know exactly what I mean. And if you haven't, I'd love to show you.

Why the Forest of Dean?

The Forest of Dean isn't just a backdrop. It's one of the oldest woodlands in England. In the twist of its roots, the hush between birdsong, the mist that sits low over the bracken on a cool morning.

There's no set, no sense of being on display. Just old trees, soft light, and space to breathe.

"But I'm Not Really a Woodland Person"

Standing in a forest in front of a camera can feel exposing in a different way to a home, more open, less controlled. But that's exactly what makes it so special.

Every location I use for sessions in the Forest of Dean is chosen specifically for its seclusion, tucked away from paths, away from anyone who might stumble across us. You won't be photographed somewhere you could be seen by a passing stranger.

You need only a willingness to walk, to breathe, and to let the environment do some of the work. I'll guide you through every step, where to stand, how to move, when to simply look up at the light through the leaves. Together we will create some amazing images.

Every session is built around your comfort and your pace, with clear communication before we even meet. This is your session, not mine.

What a Session Actually Feels Like

You arrive somewhere quiet, tucked away from the road, where the only sounds are birdsong and your own footsteps. Talking about the light, about what you're hoping to feel by the end of the day. By the time I lift the camera, you've already begun to relax.

Through dappled clearings and beneath old, leaning trees, chasing the light as it shifts through the canopy. Some of the best images happen in the in-between moments a laugh, a deep breath, the wind catching a coat. I'm not looking for perfect, I'm looking for you.

Most women tell me the same thing afterwards, they came in nervous and left surprised, not just by the images, but by how it felt to be there.
